Week of 27 August 2018

The goal of this English class is to produce critical thinkers and problem solvers. Students are not only reading for comprehension but for meaning and relevancy of the work as a whole. Literature is also an example of good writing. The writing improves when a student reads. Vocabulary also improves because the student is learning to read in context. We want successful students who can think critically and communicate effectively.

I hope you have had a memorable summer!  Getting back into the school schedule is going to be tough on all of us, but we got this!  I am excited to motivate all of you with creative, relevant, and interesting content that will help you towards all future success.  #AllAboard

Students have been introduced to to the course requirements.  There has been a slight change to the first Unit that we will be working on.  Students have demonstrated an interest in Native American Mythology.  As an important aspect of American Literature, I have encouraged the students to pursue this interest through research, analysis, and creation. While working in groups, they will use sample myths to create a myth of their own in the form of a children's book.  Students will be able to identify and apply elements of Native American Myth while writing, editing and creating their own myth.  Students will utilize technology to complete their project. They will be given the requirements and a rubric.
